Kelt Capital Hockey Academy have developed a variety of coaching programmes tailored to meet a full demographic of ages and ability levels for hockey players from both Hawke’s Bay and throughout New Zealand.

National Camps
The Kelt Capital Hockey Academy operates a variety of live - in hockey camps for players from throughout New Zealand. These camps are run during the school holidays and range from 2 – 5 days depending on the age group. Players get the chance to rub shoulders with and learn from their Blacksticks heroes. The programme is designed to develop the players with both on and off the field skills. It is a great opportunity for players to make new friends, share new experiences and challenge their ability on the hockey pitch. The programme includes 3 hours of technical training drills in the morning followed by 2 hours of game oriented training in the afternoon. The evenings are filled with a variety of social and team building activities.
Future Elites – U13s, U16s, U18s December & April Future Elites is designed for players across New Zealand who represented their province at the various age group National Tournaments.
Champ Camps January These camps are an open invitation for players of all abilities from intermediate and secondary schools across New Zealand.
Regional Representative Player Development Programmes
The Kelt Capital Hockey Academy provides players who are selected to represent Hawke’s Bay at U/18, U/15, U/13, and U/11 age groups with two fantastic training opportunities. The regional programmes are designed to enhance and develop both the individual technical skills of the players as well as an opportunity for the representative teams to improve their tactical team play prior to the National Tournaments. We also encourage all the Age Group Representative coaches to attend these trainings to develop their own coaching knowledge.
Booster Programme Senior - May /June/July Junior – September Runs for 6 weeks prior to the Age Group National Tournaments, running from May - June for the senior group (U15 & U18) and July - Sept for the junior group (U11 & U13). A total of 150 players a year enrol in the programme with training sessions taking place 2 or 3 times per week for each age group.
A+ Programme March/April November/December A12-week training programme operating during the off-season. It caters for the elite players from each of the Hawke’s Bay representative teams. Players are invited and are selected from across all representative age groups. This selection process is based on individual players performances throughout the previous season as well as a talent identification process, which we have put in place. The programme consists of 3 high performance sessions per week, which includes hockey training, nutrition lectures, physical conditioning and mental skills training.
School Programmes
The Kelt Capital Hockey Academy has a close link with schools and provides a couple of options to develop hockey within the school set up. The focus is on getting sticks in children’s hands, and encouraging participation. Fun is the key for these players aged from 4-12 years with parents, teachers and volunteers closely linked to the programmes to encourage ongoing support for young players.
Hockey Day Out May & September Primary Schools are invited to the Kelt Capital Stadium for a day of skills and games.
Mini Me March/April October/November Running two afternoons per week, the Mini Me programme is open to any child from the community as either an introduction to the game of hockey or as a kick-start to their season.
Local Holiday Programmes
These programmes are an open invitation to the community targeting both hockey playing children and those who are just keen to try something new and exciting during the holidays. These are normally 1 or 2-day programmes incorporating the real basics of the game of hockey.
Big Day Out July & September Runs twice a year and caters for local secondary school players.
Hockey Fantasticks April/May & July & October Runs five times a year and caters for primary school players.
Specialist Programmes
Umpires Camps These programmes run alongside our Future Elite Camps targeting umpires who have umpired at the U/18, U/15, Hatch & Collier Tournaments. They work with umpire coaches and are linked to player camp training sessions.
Coaches Camps • National These programmes run alongside the Elite U/13s and Champs Camps targeting coaches from throughout New Zealand who coach at this level.
• Local This programme is a Mentor Coach programme offering 120 hours of coach development to the Hawke’s Bay Hockey representative coaches.
Goal Keepers/ Strikers / Penalty Corner Camps These are highly technical introductory programmes targeting players with specific specialist skills. Local Holiday Programmes
