Bridget Kight

Bridget is a tall dominating defender who currently has nine international test caps for New Zealand. She has represented the National team since her debut at the Indira Ghandi Tournament in India in 2005. She also competed at the World Cup Qualifiers in Italy during 2006. In 2006 Bridget assisted with the coaching for the U/13 Canterbury team that won the National Collier Trophy Tournament.

What inspired you to want to be a Blackstick? To see how far I could go - a personal challenge

Favourite playing venue: Wellington (the older turf tucked in the hill)
What brand of stick do you use? Gryphon
Major competitions you have attended: 9th Indian Ghandi Tournament, India 2005. World Cup Qualifiers, Rome 2006.
Who did you play in your debut? Australia, in India, 2005. Drew 1-1 (first time we hadn't lost against Australia since 1991)
Which team do you look forward to playing the most? Canterbury (my old team) and the Dutch.
Which team do you not look forward to playing? Harbour
Who is your favourite international hockey player? Probably me.
Most embarrassing hockey moment? My first year up North playing Harbour. I went to sweep the ball, was the last line of defense and I fell over and then watched the striker take off with the ball towards my goal. It was on TV with Commentary.
Most memorable hockey moment: NZ Debut against Australia. 1-1 with Nikki Hudson on the edge of the defense circle and I tackled her (jab tackle) - it felt so good!
Least favourite hockey moment: Breaking my finger, then my hand two games later on my first NZ tour.
What do you most like about hockey/sport? The team environment, the comrederie, the exercise and the COMPETITIVENESS!
